Amazon Rumored to Launch Smartphone

Amazon.com is rumored to be planning a launch of a proprietary smartphone to compete with Apple’s ever-popular iPhone. Amazon plans to use Foxconn — the Taiwanese mobile phone plant which produces the iPhone — to manufacture its cell phone.

This comes on the heels of the success of the Kindle Fire — Amazon’s tablet which competes with the iPad directly and virtually functions the same way.

This would help Jeff Bezos, CEO, give his company market share in the lucrative cell phone industry.  Amazon is also supposedly acquiring mobile technology patents to assist in this endeavor.

Microsoft Buys Yammer for $1.2 Billion

By

In an attempt to become more social, Microsoft purchased Yammer — an online, enterprise site — this week for $1.2 Billion. Yammer will be a separate entity from Microsoft, but operate in conjunction with SharePoint, Office 365, Dynamics and Skype.

But what is Yammer exactly? And why was Microsoft willing to pay over a billion dollars for it?  According to its website, “Yammer brings the power of social networking to the enterprise in a private and secure environment. Yammer… is designed for company collaboration, file sharing, knowledge exchange and team efficiency.”

So basically, it’s an expensive version of Dropbox with a status update option?

As time passes, we will have a better idea of how this software works and whether it was worth money.

How to Take Advantage of YouTube

YouTube

By

If you’re like millions of others, you probably watch videos on YouTube — and potentially have even uploaded a video of your own on Google’s video sharing website.

YouTube is great for watching movie trailers, music videos, or even a cat dancing. But how does that help your business for SEO and ultimately conversions?  The answer is consumers more than ever want a personal connection with businesses.  If you are a personal trainer, potential clients might enjoy watching a video of you doing workout routines or even explaining a healthy diet plan.

Once videos are uploaded to YouTube, people just sort of stumble upon them, right?  Not exactly.  Something which is inherently popular, Coldplay’s new album, for example, will have a natural following.  But for the average business, posting videos and getting views requires some finesse.

Here are four easy steps to increase your chances of getting views on YouTube:

1) Use the name of your business, location, and subject matter in the title.

2) Add keywords for your video which are similar to the title but expand a bit

3) Add a link to your website.  Must be full http://www.domain.com format to become a hyperlink.

4) Use strong keywords and provide good information in the videos description

These items listed above will definitely help your videos receive views on YouTube.

Google Adwords: Worth the Money?

Google Adwords

By

Is it worth signing up for Google Adwords also known as pay-per-click (PPC)? The short answer is yes. There’s no faster way to get good traffic to your site that can lead to conversions. As long as the campaign you setup is well-targeted, the keywords are strong, and you use multiple ads that lead to strong landing pages, PPC is great.

So what’s the downside? Adwords can be quite costly and doesn’t always create that many customers for you. Moreover, if your site is well-optimized and there are strong inbound links to your site, ideally you don’t need it.

I recommend a trial period. Test out PPC for a few months and see how it works for you.

Blogging: Is it Really Good for SEO?

Blog

By Bryan Wisotsky

Does blogging really improve SEO rankings for your website?  Is it worth taking that time and putting in the effort?  The answer is a resounding “YES”.

So why is blogging important?  The reason is simple: Google is more likely to crawl or index a site that is constantly being updated.  If your website has no new, fresh content, it’s unlikely to be indexed regularly by Google.  More importantly, you increase the likelihood of driving traffic to your website because of posts which are added.

If you are planning a website, or have one already, make sure to include a blog iwht relevant posts.
